Petula Clark Singing Her Songs
Again With Richard Carpenter
NEW YORK (AP) - After spending more
than two years touring with the musical ``Sunset Boulevard,'' Petula Clark
says it's nice to be able to sing her own songs again.
The British singer, best known for
hits such as ``Downtown,'' is featured this week in her own PBS special,
``Petula Clark in Concert: A Sign of the Times'' (check local listings).
Clark finished up a U.S. tour of ``Sunset Boulevard'' last year.
``In the (United) States over the
last few years, I've been doing more sort of like theater than concerts,''
Clark told The Associated Press. ``The idea of doing a concert, a live
concert show in the States seemed to be quite appealing.''
Besides the concert, Clark has been
working on a new album she hopes to release sometime next year, and plans
to perform several shows with Richard Carpenter.

Madonna: Bringing "Music" to
the Masses
There's a reason why Madonna, one
of the most popular singers in the known universe, has never released a
live album, and it's one that will become apparent to anyone who catches
the legendary singer on tour this summer.
Madonna has never shied away from
the spectacular or the controversial as she's transformed her image from
tramp to vamp and beyond over the past two decades with ease. And for "The
Drowned World Tour," her first in eight years and one that covers 12 cities
and 29 dates in America alone, the singer is pulling out all the stops,
whether she's donning a cowboy outfit for a suggestive hoe-down, dabbling
in a bit of punk masochism or dressing up in geisha gear.
The show is anything but a career
retrospective, drawing the bulk of its selections from the more recent
albums "Music" and "Ray of Light," with the early hit "Holiday" making
a token appearance for those bustier-sporting golden oldies lovers. "I
just can't imagine doing stuff like 'Like A Virgin' and 'Material Girl'
and things like that," Madonna told Loder. "I don't know who that person
is! She's a really sort of Neanderthal version of me. Really amoeba, unformed."
Regardless of her song selection,
the spectacle of a Madonna concert is once again making an impression on
both new and long-time fans.
"She's so cool that you feel remarkably
uncool in her presence," "Live with Regis and Kelly" co-host Kelly Ripa
said during an impromptu review after seeing the star perform at New York's
Madison Square Garden. "She's just amazing."

Eminem Sued Again...
Eminem is being sued, Dec 08, 2001 (United Press
International via COMTEX) -- again. This time, it's by a childhood chum
who claims the rapper defamed him in the song "Brain Damage," from the
album "The Slim Shady LP."
DeAngelo Bailey, a sanitation worker who wants
a rap career, is suing his former grade school classmate for $1 million,
claiming the tune damaged his reputation.
The Detroit Free Press printed lyrics from the
song: "I was harassed daily by this fat kid named DeAngelo Bailey. An eighth-grader
who acted so obnoxious, 'cause his father boxes. So every day he'd shove
me into the lockers." Bailey denies harassing or beating up Eminem, whose
real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III.
In the past, Eminem has been sued by his ex-wife,
Kim, and his mother.
