Music With A Message

Janet Writes

It's hard to place myself in any particular genre, either musically or lyrically. I write from my heart and write "Christian" themes as well as secular.

Rather than Christian music, it's more aptly called "message music", as it is not typical "praise and worship music", but it is most certainly MY praise and worship.

"Sing unto the Lord a New Song" is what we are told to do, and I believe this qualifies. I write about my journey with the Lord - a bittersweet, but worthwhile journey.

I just write about whatever affects me... how the Lord speaks in the valley ("Valley of Silence"), how he still longs to touch me when I'm "dirty as coal" ("Bright Morning Star"), the sad plight of today's church with its deceived (and deceiving) televangelists ("Hold On!"), or the need for a prophet like John the Baptist ("Who Do We Have Today?").

I equally enjoy writing about "just life", like the sorrows of a mid-aged suburban woman ("I Don't Love Him Anymore") or just the need for all of us to have a compliment once in awhile ("Just A Little Drop of Kindness").

I suppose the song that means the most to me is "Soft & Good" - many stories within a story - one of them being about the death of my baby daughter.

This song was selected for the featured artist in Pop Vocals in November 1999.

We record in our home, which can be a real challenge with 4 kids, but somehow my husband and I get the job done. Anyway, hope you can connect with a tune or two.
